Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) Level 2 Award in Wines is a beginner to intermediate level course for wine professionals and enthusiasts. If you are keen to learn about a wide range of wines or want to expand the introductory knowledge that you gained with the WSET Level 1 Award in Wines, then this is the right course for you. People who believe that they have a basic understanding of the subject can directly take WSET Level 2. However, if you are new to the subject, we suggest that you take WSET Level 1 before moving on to the next level.
In this course, you’ll gain knowledge of the principal and regionally important grape varieties of the world, the regions in which they are grown, and the styles of wine they produce. You’ll also explore the factors on which the style and quality of a wine depend and the main principles involved in the storage and service of wine and food pairing. The certification will equip you to methodically taste and describe wines using WSET Level 2 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine (SAT).
The minimum duration that you need to complete this qualification is 28 hours- this consists of 16 hours of classroom or online delivery time with a WSET Approved Programme Provider, 11 hours of personal study and revision, and a one-hour examination.
The WSET Level 2 exam is a one-hour closed-book test in which you have to solve 50 multiple-choice questions. On clearing the exam, you will receive a certificate and lapel pin from WSET, and will be able to use the associated WSET certified logo.
While it is a good habit to read blogs and books on wine to build your knowledge on the subject, this should be a long-term habit, and not a part of your Level 2 exam preparation. To clear this level, all you need to do is to master the latest textbook as it contains all the possible information you need to prepare for the multiple choice questions paper.
